I like a company whose willing to take the effort in correcting their mistakes as oppose to not doing anything about it at all.
As for releasing a "crappy game", thats only your subjective view. If a few complaints automatically labels the game as "crappy" then there's really no good games out there anymore. You cant satisfy everyone, no matter what Anet does, there will ALWAYS be some dickwad who thinks they should be in charge of what games should all look/feel/play like.
Although I doubt I can speak for Arenanet, I'm sure all of our opinions and discussions here were thoroughly adhered to by their research and development teams. They've calculated the "majority's interest" versus the mutually exclusive "minority's interest" and executed their games accordingly. Those of us that are still here after April 28th filling out complaint threads are simply in the "minority" category.

Shouldn't iterations of the same product improve over time? I'd say that this game has the feeling of being rushed out the door and that's suprising since the development team had at least a year to work through the initial glitches in the first game. Somehow, though, they managed to let some of the same issues that plagued Prophecies get into Factions. (Like characters getting stuck in floors and other clipping problems.)

So only you and a handful of people is saying this game was done perfectly and in the best interest of the majority. Look around in this forum and other forums, there are plenty of unhappy people.
BTW...its also your "subjective view" too.
Also, regarding your comment...."no matter what Anet does, there will ALWAYS be some dickwad who thinks ..." think twice b4 you insult people for making conflicting comments...enough said!!!!!

Exactly...shouldn't they have learned from their mistakes the first time, but yet they turn around and release a game that is full of problems.

It IS great that you don't have to pay to play, but I did not buy this game for that reason alone, people expect quality.

I like that analogy, whether or not it is poor.
And I won't even get started on GWF; ANET knows what they have done. They are the ones that know GWP in and out, and know GWF in and out, and I can bet they have made internal comparisons. What they know, and what they "market" to the public, can be two different things. It might just be that the gaming public can't be fooled that easily. Well at least I won't be anyway.
Another point, a discussion forum with valid complaints and constructive criticism is more valued than some other FANBOI site. You learn more from your failures and defeats, than your victories. Sure each go hand in hand, but praise gets you nowhere. If they want to hear praise to feed their egos, they can go to the Fanboy forums. When they listen to complaints, they can fix whatever they need to fix, making the game better. Of course there is the argument you cannot please everyone. They will have to make the decision on who to please. And I bet they will base that decision on their sales. -.-
It's not that I do not want to give praise, but I will give it when it is rightly due.

There are plenty of happy people as well, you gotta be blind to miss that.
And I'll admit, I've been a dickwad to a few other games as well... somebody has to do it. But I ain't blaming you for being a dickwad for guild wars.
PS... all opinions are "subjective".
edit:: Before you read too much into the "subjective" debate. Let me clarify that my attack is not on your right to make critical opinions or state your 2 cents. My disappointment is your assumption that the majority of people do not like Factions, and nerfing a few builds automatically makes the game bad.

The majority of the game doesn't visit this forum.. or any forums at all, for that matter. I think a quick tour through outposts and just asking around will give you a nice view of what the majority of the community thinks about this game.

I would just like to say that no other game developed in such a short space of time has delivered as much quality as this. The environments are fantastic. The skill system still poses challenge and requires skill. In my opinion they added plenty more for me to be getting on with. People should at least complete every bit of the game before moaning that not enough additions were made.

The thing is, people only post on here when they complain about something. People that are happy with the game dont post anything.
Personally i think you're just complaining because the game isnt what you wanted it to be.
Prophecies had a lot of bugs in it when it was released. You don't need to farm at all with factions anymore, because if you take a team of 4 players/4 hench out into any explorable area, you are almost guaranteed to get 2 gold drops, if not more (between the 4 players)
Add to that the fact that you can get a green from any explorable area boss..there is no need to farm anymore.
Secondly..people complained about Prophecies being too easy PvE wise..now people complain about Factions being too hard (which it isnt btw)..
People complained that the random 12v12 was crappy, now people are complaining that going in groups of 4 is crappy.
This community has gone down the toilet to be honest. Hardly anyone makes a good, well thought out and insightful thread anymore. Its always "I can't do this so Anet & Guild Wars Sucks"..its pathetic really. Like the board has been taken over by 10 year olds.

There are clearly many different opinions here on this board.
May it be constructive criticism, appraisals, or just sheer mud slinging, it does NOT make Guild Wars Factions a "Failure". in respect, it doesn't make it the "best game ever made" either. Your opinion are your own, don't stick your own opinion down other people's throat.

IMO, they have our concerns in mind. those of you ranting about every little thing wrong in Factions, have you ever developed a game? my guess is no. I havent either, but helping with testing has taught me alot about the workings of how a game is developed. Its never going to be perfect on release. I think its great they added more rare drops and gold rewards. I love the fact that I dont have to farm for ages to get armor I want I know some of you are all about farming, and honestly, if thats your thing, im sorry they nerfed that for you. but you cant please everyone. and the general gaming community doesnt farm as a main source of entertainment in the game. I've enjoyed the pve part so far, even as a mostly pvp player. I think they are doing a tremendous job listening to our concerns. I just think that maybe we should be a little more CIVIL in the way we address these issues. They are much more likley to consider a well thought out concern without flaming in it than a ranting, 'you suck' post. So please, use civil words and punctuation when posting your concerns. I know i'd be more apt to listen to you if you did

Actually Zaxan I don't completely agree with you. A lot of the long-time frustrations like bad henchie A.I. and new alternatives for the trade channel have long since been adressed by the community, since the first day GW went online over a year ago, and a lot of people, including myself thought that with factions coming, these long time frustrations would get solved, since they didn't get fixed or changed in any patch meanwhile. Now it seems that aside from the guildhall improvements, (that still need some work, but definately enjoyable) these problems haven't changed, but instead we get more new content iof the same level instead of making it qualitatively better. Henchies are actually even slightly worse (or at least perform worse in these conditions because the mobs are closer packed, so aggro-ing is a lot harder), trade is still annoying, still nothing to change appearance, favor of the gods still excludes people etc.
To add to the mix, although actions is in itself quite good, it's not everything it was made out to be. The story hasn't gotten any better or intriguing, there's actually less coop. mission, and of course a lot of people are denied access to the elite missions now. The concerns people have are well-funded and the general consensus on fansites seems to be that they'll wait and see what chapter 3 is like before they buy it like they did with chapter 2. Of course a lot of people bring it in a bad way and fanboys clash with trollers and flamers, like on any healthy forum, so it overshadows the legitimate problems and issues that are brought up.
It's true that less people enjoy 12 vs 12 now than they did in the preview event, and it's true that painfull bugs in the first missions seem like the game wasnt playtested all that well, elite missions encourage grind over skill, contrary to what the game stands for. My suggestion would be that instead of feeding the cravings of the masses by making some new holiday event that obviously costs a lot of hours and work to pull it off, focus that effort on a cool new trading system, on making the henchies better, etc. That would on the long run be a lot better than keeping some silly hat you never use anyway. And be man enough to admit that the elite missions and the favor of the gods just excludes large groups of people and should be revised from the ground up. It's almost painfull to see no real response from Anet's side on these topics except for 'play more pvp'.
Now for me personally the good in factions outweighs the bad, I like the new artwork, higher res armors (why not upgrade the tyrian ones too? they look bland in comparison, just make the texture sharper in photoshop or something), the Luxons and the Kurzicks are well-portrayed and their differences and philosophies work well for the game, and of course I just like to play more GW even if it's not much of an improvement over prophecies.

Most of my issues with GWF thus far have stemmed from the shortcomings with Alliance Features. Ever since I've purchased and played the game, I haven't had a chance to see how well the skills are balanced PvP wise, so I can't really comment on that.
But regarding everything else, I just have to give my compliments to ANET. I am completely enjoying my PvE time through Factions right now. I'm stoked they beefed up PvE...it makes it much more appealing and the fact that they added Titles, it give me (a PvP Junkie) incentive to actually try to obtain some PvE Titles. Not to mention that the new PvE Environments are gorgeous, the character skins/models are to my liking, and the new Armors actually are soo nice that I'm actually considering farming for the first time BTW, I can no longer play PvE without my Mini Charr Shamen, lol!

the trouble with factions is that all the mobs are virtually the same mixture of enemy classes, i went through the whole game with the same skillset, theres absolutely no variety in the gameplay
and omg that ghetto, dont even start, worst area in a game ever

Outposts... in the game? Generally, if there are people that are playing the game, you can most likely assume they enjoy it. What about those that don't enjoy it, and aren't playing for that fact? I'd say the best way to see is let time pass.
And for the success, ANET is going to have to compare all those that they "disappointed", along with all those that they won over. If they have won over more people in CH2 than they disappointed, then success. If they haven't, well then...

I agree the Alliance feature was a bit discouraging for me. I can only hope they reconsider the structure of that feature to allow more inexperienced players to participate.

how can you complain about this??? The game just came out, they havent been able to get all the bugs out yet. This isnt WoW when you pay and they fix it right away. You should be happy there is no monthly fee. Dont expect them to be at your command for everything you dont like about the game because they are worknig as hard as they can and you keep whippin them in the back for no money at all when they do all they can in their power. Enjoy the game dont complain about it.
And most of all, Dont care about what others get or do, thats like a first grade lesson people.

I think they did a good job of fixing some of the MINOR issues with the original, added a bit of salt and pepper, and they are gonna let it simmer.
I am having fun; sorry some of you are not.
